James Carroll Paxson 81, died of cardiac complications in Ocala, Fla., Nov. 8, 2011, diligently working on one of his many properties. Services will be held Nov. 12, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Hiers-Baxley funeral home, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, Fla. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local veterans home or St. Mark’s Methodist Church Ocala, Fla.
He was born Dec. 21, 1929, and raised in Dunbar, a farmers son. Jim was a master sergeant in the Army and served in the 2nd division combat engineers as an occupation troop in Germany and fought in the Korean War 1950-1951. He returned to Iowa, living in Grundy Center with his wife, Genevieve. In 1960 the family moved to Gloucester, Mass., where he was the east coast manager for a nationwide trucking company while operating his own local trucking company.
In 1983 he moved his family to Ocala and became a successful real estate entrepreneur. James was a life long Methodist serving as a trustee at churches in Massachusetts and Florida. He was a philanthropist to many organizations including war vets, Salvation Army and St. Mark’s thrift store.
He is survived by his devoted loving wife of 65 years, Genevieve; his children: Cindy (Daniel) Shaffer, Tim (Louise) Lindy, Ted (Dawn) and Wendi (Dr. Sukumaran) Ramaswami, 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Mindy and brother Bill.
