CALLENDER – Lucille Gwendolyn Olson, age 95, died Monday October 31, 2011 at Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Callender, with Pastor Kent Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the Callender Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday November 4 at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.
Survivors include her son, Lionel Olson of Callender, daughter Dee Ann (Edward) Shaw of Laguna Beach, CA, and daughter June (Darryl) Hartley of Corona del Mar, CA and Conroe, Texas; eight grandchildren, Kari (Eric) Lleva of St. Paul, MN, Karl Olson of Austin, MN, Annie (Michael) Pearson of Callender, Jenny (A. J.) Louismet of St. Paul, MN, Leslie (Marshall) Sigesmund of Del Mar, CA, Andrea (Jonathan) Rogers of Glendale, CA, Scott (Kimberly) Atkin of Lake Oswego, OR and Robert (Janice) Atkin of Tigard, OR; eleven great-grandchildren, Ingrid and Helen Lleva, Lauren and Kaylee Olson, Clara and Siearra Pearson, Mitchell and Grant Sigesmund, Hailey Atkin and Calvin and Riley Atkin. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Olson, her parents William and Clara (Piltingsrud) Larson, a brother Allard and son-in-law John Atkin.
Lucille Gwendolyn Larson was born on Mary 17, 1916 on the family farm near Callender. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She attended Roland Township schools and graduated from Callender High School. At age eight, Lucille moved with her family to Lyons, Colorado where they lived for four years before returning to the family farm. On August 22, 1935, she was united in marriage to Leonard Olson in Fort Dodge. They made their home on the Olson homestead near Callender until they retired and moved into Callender in April of 1998.
Lucille was a 4-H leader in Roland Township for ten years, a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, W.E.L.C.A., and the Hannah Circle. Her long time hobby was quilting, making many quilts for family members and the Lutheran Relief. She also enjoyed their many trips to California to see her family.
Memorials may be left at the family’s discretion.
